About ACTAGM

ACTA-GM (Anti Counterfeiting Trade Africa & Greater Maghreb) is a dynamic non-profit leading the fight against counterfeit trade and protecting IP rights across Africa and the Maghreb.

ACTAGM is the natural continuation of 4 years of the AfriPI, we carry forward its legacy with enhanced capabilities to address today’s most pressing IP challenges.

We lead the fight against counterfeiters’ evolving tactics, particularly their dangerous shift to local production that: distorts markets and weakens legal systems. Working with governments and rights holders, we deliver effective solutions through:

Algeria

New Digital Copyright System: Algeria’s National Copyright Office (ONDA) has launched an online platform for copyright registration, speeding up approvals (Confirmed by Executive Decree No. 23-08 (2023).
Trademark Modernization: New procedures to reduce trademark registration delays (target: 12 months, by INAPI).

Morocco

Patent Law Reform: Updated industrial property law (2023) aligns with EU standards, streamlining patent examinations.

Tunisia

Unified IP Portal: The INNORPI agency introduced a one-stop portal for trademarks, patents, and designs (2024).

Mauritania

Egypt

EGIPA Launch: New authority (Law No. 163/2023) centralizes IP management, boosting enforcement and strategy.
Counterfeit Crackdown: 40% rise in raids targeting fake pharmaceuticals and electronics (Ministry of Trade and Industry,2024).

Libya

Draft IP Law: Proposed overhaul of the 1958 law to include digital copyrights and modern trademarks (WIPO Lex).
Customs Coordination: Training programs with EUIPO to detect counterfeit imports(EUIPO).

Set up cooperation arrangements throughout the Mediterranean basin, in order to multiply the impact of actions and address cross-border challenges.

Study of local needs for authorities and rights holders, including all sectors of activity as well as tangible and intangible goods.

Anticipate

Take into account the resulting geopolitical and geostrategic upheavals, as well as the rapid development of new technologies on the African continent.

Closely monitor the adaptation of counterfeiters to these new realities, in order to stay ahead of their illicit innovations.

Work closely with customs, law enforcement, courts, … as well as WIPO, EU, OAPI, ARIPO, EUIPO, UNESCO, offices and other international bodies.

To be effective, we must ensure that we are acting in a coherent manner, that we exchange reliable information on a regular basis and that we coordinate with the institutions concerned at a high level. It is also essential to adapt our strategies to local circumstances and circumstances.

Raise awareness & train

Raising awareness among the general public, businesses, governments and consumers of the impacts of counterfeiting on health, economy, security and culture is essential.

The deployment of training, colloquia, seminars and technical and legal workshops to strengthen the skills of key actors and disseminate proven practices is essential for achieving concrete results on the ground.

ACTA-GM will be an essential point of reference in the fight against counterfeiting, thanks to a powerful exchange portal, targeted training and an increasingly strong institutional presence.
