Regional Cooperation
Developing Regional Synergies to Address Cross-Border Challenges
Intellectual property infringements and counterfeit networks do not stop at borders. Illicit flows move rapidly, fraudulent models continue to evolve, distribution channels are changing and challenges are becoming increasingly interconnected at both regional and international levels.
In response to this reality, ACTA-GM believes that regional cooperation is a key lever for strengthening the long-term protection of markets, innovation and consumers.
Our ambition is to develop practical synergies across Africa, the Greater Maghreb and the Mediterranean basin, in order to address counterfeiting, piracy, illicit trade and intellectual property challenges through a coordinated approach.
Building Bridges Across Territories
ACTA-GM acts as a platform for dialogue, cooperation and knowledge-sharing between countries, institutions and field stakeholders.
This dynamic aims to:
- Strengthen exchanges between public authorities, customs administrations, intellectual property offices and specialised agencies, facilitating a shared understanding of regional challenges;
- Foster closer collaboration between rights holders, international institutions and local partners, in order to identify common priorities and develop tailored responses;
- Develop regional and sector-specific initiatives, integrating the economic, regulatory and cultural realities of each territory;
- Encourage the sharing of experiences and best practices, helping strengthen operational capacities and accelerate knowledge transfer between countries.
An Approach Adapted to Local Realities
Regional cooperation can only be effective when grounded in a deep understanding of each market’s specific context.
ACTA-GM promotes a pragmatic approach that takes into account:
Regulatory Realities: Legal frameworks, customs mechanisms, administrative procedures and available protection tools across countries.
Economic & Sector Realities: Risk levels, highly exposed sectors, trade channels and emerging fraud trends.
Cultural & Territorial Realities: Consumer behaviours, public awareness, institutional priorities and local constraints.
Building a Collective Response to Regional Challenges: Through regional training programmes, workshops, multi-stakeholder meetings, sector-specific initiatives and exchange platforms, ACTA-GM seeks to foster a sustainable cooperation dynamic capable of anticipating emerging challenges and strengthening collective capacities over the long term.
Because effective protection cannot remain solely national, regional cooperation has become a strategic necessity.
